This painting depicts two men at a table, with a door ajar behind them, revealing military personnel, as in the “Surrounded” collection.
This time, this military presence is different. More than just a shapeless mass, I gave them back a sense of individuality. The army can't be a distant image of trauma for me; my relationship with it is more complex as my father has been in military school since he was 12. Our family photos depict candid scenes of seemingly lambda boys, who later lost their individuality to become part of this corps when reaching adulthood.
