Barbara Wildenboer (b. 1973, Pretoria, South Africa) is a South African artist whose interdisciplinary practice sits at the intersection of art, the natural sciences and the humanities. Trained in English literature, psychology and education before pursuing studies in visual arts, she holds a Master of Fine Art with distinction from the Michaelis School of Fine Art in South Africa.
At the heart of her practice, the notion of the archive - written, material or natural - allows her to explore how language, memory and systems of classification shape our understanding of the world. Working across books, paper and organic materials, she examines the relationships between knowledge, culture and ecology, and more broadly, those that connect humans to their environment.
