The Power of Love: Théophany Adoh - Isaac Iirumva - Prince Obasi

14 September - 28 October 2023

LouiSimone Guirandou Gallery is pleased to bring together the artists Théophany Adoh, Isaac Iirumva and Prince Obasi for the exhibition The Power of Love, from 14 September to 28 October 2023.

It is sometimes difficult to name the different states oflove, so much does it evolve with time and social conventions, and so much does it seem unique and new each time. The ancient Greeks even used four terms to describe it: Eros, desire and passion; Philia, friendly love; Storgé, family ties; Agapé, charity. This complex and mysterious feeling fascinates, inspires and frightens. The three artists plunge into a non-exhaustive exploration of its various forms, structured by the scenography into a journey through three stages, from seduction to filial love, passion and commitment.

The beginnings of love coincide with seductive attitudes that seem innate, even though they are marked by social conventions. Glances and smiles, sensuality, daring attempts: everything is done to irresistibly attract the one you desire. Like a dance, body language replaces words. Adornments, big cars, dance steps - all the trump cards, more or less subtle, are deployed in this grand parade.

Perseverance and daring pay off in the end, and two individuals seem to want to become one. As if magnetised towards each other, their embrace is such that it becomes difficult to tell them apart. This irrepressible need for physical closeness reflects the intensity of a feeling that, when it takes hold, is the breeding ground for a solid and fertile bond. The loving, embracing arms become a protective enclosure where the filial bond blossoms. A delicious tour de force.

Théophany Adoh, Isaac Iirumva and Prince Obasi find their own way between the many facets of love and the expressions of its irresistible and undeniable power.
