Duality: Pedro Pires

8 December 2021 - 12 February 2022

With Duality, Pedro Pires signs his first solo exhibition in Côte d'Ivoire and continues his exploration of issues related to identity and stereotypes in direct connection with education, history and institutions.

In addition to his "interventions on paper", Pires, whose work is involved in sculpture, drawing, photography, video and installation, features here sculptures created from everyday objects that are common to all Abidjanese, thus installing a contrast between the usual use of these objects and the gallery space and bringing out new figurative meanings of identity in our society. Lastly, "Duality" presents small series of "faces" forged by the Artist inspired by the wrought iron works very present around the buildings of Lisbon where he lives. Pires uses these metallic elements in relation to the human body, playing with transparency, shapes evoking flowers and leaves and imagining his "faces" as a protective second skin covered with the beauties of nature.

Presented together, these works, all in relation to the human body, create a dynamic and intimate space inviting to new relationships, meetings and interpretations.
