This work reflects on informal education as a system of survival; knowledge transmitted through observation, repetition, and shared labor rather than instruction.

Inspired by my time in. Grand-Popo, Benin, where fishing structures daily life, the figures are depicted mid-action, their bodies already fluent in the demands of water, weight, and coordination. The boat becomes a moving classroom. Each gesture, rowing, balancing, pulling the net signals a lesson learned through proximity and necessity.

There are no written rules here; understanding is embedded in muscle memory and collective rhythm. The patterned surfaces reference cultural continuity, while the surrounding water suggests uncertainty and risk as constant teachers.

Unlike formal schooling, this knowledge cannot be postponed or abstracted. It is immediate, practical, and shared across generations. The work acknowledges informal education not as secondary to institutional learning, but as foundational; shaping discipline, responsibility, and communal dependence long before the presence of classrooms or curricula.
