These five figures represent the different facets of Aïda Muluneh’s personality. By combining multiple photographs of the same woman, Muluneh presents her subject from various angles, both hiding and revealing parts of her form. Draped in a long pink gown, she drifts through the columns like a ghost, symbolically referencing the idea that no one ever fully knows themselves.
Through metaphor, Muluneh’s vibrant photographs highlight her cultural, political, and national identity as an Ethiopian woman and immigrant living in Côte d’Ivoire. This work is part of the Public Art Fund exhibition This Is Where I Am, featuring posters displayed on bus shelters throughout Abidjan, where the artist currently lives.
